1944 to 2008
As we come out of the Rhine section I'd like to cross fade between the last WW2 scene and a Afghan Patrol. I will composite a transport chopper as indicated (crudely).
This nicely signifies the leap in time, and transforms the horsa into a chopper!
These images are taken from 2006 Photo CD, Titles Bob Maddocks. I guess they are official. Here is the info on them. Given the situation there, I wouldn't want to include a photo that wasn't appropriate - for whatever reason.
Please confirm.

The operation, code-named Op MAR CHICHEL (Snake-Bite) was intended to secure a route allowing the resupply of a coalition stronghold nearby, resulted in the death of a 19-year old British soldier from the Royal Logistics Corps, who was killed by a sniper during the latter stages of the Op.

This may add an extra few seconds onto the 4 minutes, but no more than 12.

Revised Panorama
After a bit more consideration, I've decided to drop the Russian link up altogether in favour of Bob's suggestion, as it makes more sense to emphasise the scale of the drop - the point of the final caption.
The three paratroopers standing to attention on the left are taken form Paradata Arnhem files given to me. Unfortunately, there are no notes with the photo to explain when it was taken. Could not find it on the IWM database.
Hope it's ok to use.

Revised Final Layout
The Image scrolls from left (Market Garden) to Right (Rhine Crossing) before coming to a rest on the group shot.
Note to Bob K :
I appreciate that the link up was in the Baltic, some time after the crossing, but the group shot acts here to signify the end of the war - with the Paras centre stage, as it were. They are placed on the horizon line, to imply distance from the crossing. Perhaps I can emphasise that more.

Revised Commando
Wasn't happy with the quality of the Group shot for the Colossus commandos, so I went with a similar group from early training. Same clothing and headgear. Better view of the Whiltley bomber.
Added Churchill before start of Ringway. Changed wording to say he 'Spurred on' development.
IWM have sent better photos for Market garden soldiers, which I'm working and colourising now.
Caption Timeline:
because of the dateline going from germany 39>40>42 (Brunival), I will have to change the formation section caption which follows to some less time dependent, otherwise the timeline jumps backwards to 40-41.
So perhaps, something that says about airborne troops 'growing in strength on both side of the altlantic'?

Early Commando Missions
Not decided on if the colossus need some sort of title....almost done.
Nice to get RAF, red beret & Col.Frost in the mix.

First Scenes is not finalised (Leonardo/parasol jump).
The last scenes aren't hand coloured yet.
The WW2 panoramas with have a certain amount of 3d/parallax depth - but not excessively so.

Arnhem to Rhine
This picks up from the Horsa Cornfield Normandy Image. Pans past the DZ to a liberated Arnhem (6 months later). Finishes at the shot of the Rhine landing with chutes dropping. Against the horizon we see Paras linking up with the Russians.
Note:
The Paras in the Russian group shot are Canadian. I have and alternative (below) with British Paras - which doesn't work quite so well.
Normandy Jumper
This only last a few seconds, but I've animated the clouds and lights in the cabin to give it some more drama - as if it needs it!

This Image follow directly on from the Badges on Chutes dropping > map and Para at Doorway. Cheated 4 or so pictures together, but it features the glider - which was a concern of Bob.

This is the Ringway composite for the first section. The main Paras helmet is very rudimentary but it's probably good to enforce that these were early days...
I have the Churchill letter, which I might use to segue between Eban and Ringway - depending on time.

c7 Invasion Fort Eben-Emael - Belgium Part 2

Note: This is just a crude camera layout - ignore the poses and animation.
Second half of the C7 German Invasion sequence.
The camera has moved out of the jump plane (see previous post), past a stick of ascending germans (close enough to clearly show the single fix point harness)....
Continues:
The camera tracks down from the sky to reveal two german demolition engineers silhouetted against one of the fort's knocked out guns. One soldier waves his MP40, while the other uses binoculars to follow the troopers as they drop behind a line of trees. (will be in uniform)
If I can, I will also add a DFS 230 glider in the mid distance, just to emphasise that the first assault was by glider.
Comment fro Bob:
Based on what I have read, and your comments, I thought the Eban raid was a good choice to illustrate the effectiveness of a combined glider/parachute operation. It makes sense to graphically illustrate how small groups of troopers could knock out seeming impregnable defenses.

C3 Baldwin Jump Camera Blocking
This shot will shows the camera move and basic elements.
The camera tracks past the balloon's basket, we will see Baldwin poised to jump.
As he jumps, the camera begins to pull away.
The Camera comes to rest in front on a grassy plateau, on which is posted a advertisement for the baldwin jump. (see other animation tests for this chapter here)
After a moment's pause, the sepia tone of the shot will change to faded colour.
A pusher plane shoots into view, buzz over the grass and foreground sign. The poster falls away to reveal a 'Barnstorming Poster'. The plane scatters leaflets announcing the advent of flight, some of which fall into view.
The camera pan up to the sun, and we transition into the Tiny Jump Sequence.
C7.1 German Swan Dive (rough)
Start of Invasion sequence. Strong silhouette of trooper swan diving. Camera will follow him out, then through a cluster of descending chutes, then down into Eban Fort (see this post)

C9 Badge Sequence (pre invasion)
When introducing the 3 badges, I plan to start with an shot of a folded uniform (and perhaps other equipment), beside which is a cloth Pegasus badge.
The badges spring to life (click the image above to see a test), rippling upwards off to become mini parachutes- and herald the Overlord sequence.

Rough Timing
Plane flies out of sun and drops Tiny onto airfield.
As she deploys the chute, the Camera chases her down, passing through the apex hole, into the next scene (Map of the Western Front).
Notes: An Image of Tiny will appear on the top of the Chute. The tops of the hanger building will signpost the location.

Russian Paratrooper
This a low resolution model with I'll use for the red square sequence.
As the image of their commander appears, the soldiers uniforms will transform into jump gear, to graphically illustrate the soviet dream of a 'airborne nation'.
Amendment: Bob confirmed the berets are wrong for the (period 1936). According to the Airborne Operations book, they would have been wearing standard air crew helmets and goggles. I will amend.

Chute Lines
Line in place. These line are a bit rubbery, but interact properly. 4 sets of 8 lines will connect to the D rings on the harness. This model will be very easy to 'pose', should further animation be required.

Chute Silk Test renders
Strong sun behind chute. Note how the tapes block out the light.
The light permeates the silk nicely, giving it a nice sense of volume, without resorting to the placement of fake light underneath the canopy.
Also note the animated clouds, which I've been working on, too.

Caption Timing
Based on 140 words per minute, about 6.5 seconds for an average 15 words caption seems comfortable, to me.
